Magazines

Dear visitor,

out of pure genuine interest in your persona I was wondering - just the other day - if you’re a magazine reading type? And if so, what would be your favourite must-reads?

Obviously these can be both international or extremely local even, your regional newspaper might serve you up the latest on-point from time to time, anything goes.

Let me start this one off by summing up my fav’s, not saying I read them entirely, but these are the ones I just have to through:

- Wax Poetics
- (Focus) Knack
- Humo
- Voxer
- Vice
- Brussel Deze Week
- Zone02
- …

Not that impressive, I know, but what did you expect? I’m an online native baby!

Video: 28Millimetres Project

Filed under: the latest, Video - =lloyd= @ 11:56 am

“365 jours à Clichy Montfermeil”
The ghettos of Paris. Not the most popular holiday destination. This is a project by Ladj Ly and JR, who first brought us a photobook and now serve us up a DVD-release.

By the look of the trailer this seems like a must-see. The video above shows the street-art side of the story, the trailer on the site shows the street side of it.
The cover reminds me of the Cidade de Deus vibe, only less sunny.

Video: Google: The Masterplan

Filed under: the latest, Video - =lloyd= @ 2:35 pm

Loving this animation. I’ve always wondered how brainstormsessions for projects like these look like..

“Guys, we’ve got to do something about this book that talks upon a big Google conspiracy theory…”

“What does it look like?”

“What? The theory? Google? One’s a book, the other’s a collection of killerservers, I think.”

“Hmm… Hard one mate. We might need an extra art director, a fly-ass animator and some devine inspiration.”

“Yeah… Well anyway: let’s go!”

The result is brilliant:

Can’t go wrong with a penguin

Today I’ll be rocking my latest addition to the big pile of t-shirts. The utterly rare “I’m so hot, I should be paying eco-tax”-shirt.

Features three penguins.

Highly collectible.

My cam broke down so I can’t post a photo, maybe later on today, until then: visualize!

It’s a future classic.

Waarom SecondLife toch interessant is

Warning: The following might be totally irrelevant for the busy people, if you consider yourself one busy human, I recommend reading this article: “5 tips to make things easier” If you aren’t, and you’re Dutch-speaking, please continue:

News From Nowhere, rechtstreeks uit de virtuele parallelle wereld Second Life.

Fundamentele journalistieke vragen komen naar voren in Second Life . We had to make a few changes to our editorial practises because we’re talking to people who are in essence anonymous - at least in terms of their real life identities. So we had to get together some practising which are constantly being tested to make sure they work.‘”

Meer nieuws over professionele Second Life folks: Marco Cadioli, Second Life fotograaf: These days, Cadioli is so busy with his work in Second Life that he says he no longer has time to take photos in real life.

Is uw buurman succesvol SecondLife-entrereneur?

Humo Second Life

SNS Podcast - J Dilla Tribute Mixtape Side A (Coming up!)

It’s been a year now since Jaydee passed away. There has been a whole lot of tributes, mixes, podcasts, parties, t-shirts, posters, name it. And it’s only right. I won’t get into Dilla’s influence on beats, rhymes, music as a whole or anything like that.

By now you probably already know.

Just in case you don’t, we’re having our very own Wonderful tribute Feb.24. Later on today the podcast episode will be hosted, none other than SNS J Dilla Tribute Mixtape - Side A.

One thing about Dilla that has been a bit overlooked though, in my humble opinion, is his singing. Dilla sang! Not your heavyweight crooner but damn I loved it when he threw in some melody. So withouth further ado, here’s my list of favourite Dilla songs, featuring Dilla on the chorus:

- Slum Village - Fall in Love
- Slum Village - Fall in Love Remix
- Fourtet - Serious as Your Life Remix
- Spacek - Eve Remix
- Jaydee - Think Twice

On-point.be is back!

We’re back! On-point.be that is. For those who didn’t notice, the .be domain was in quarantaine for over a month. If you have the blogsome.com address linked or bookmarked, please change it to www.on-point.be. One of these weeks we’ll start blogging from that, and you don’t want to miss out on that, do you?

Sure feels good to be back. Feels shitty to see my old hosting company (cheapass/realroot) charging me an extra €12 for a domainname they actually deleted and didn’t re-register. The support helpdesk not picking up the phone was actually the main reason why on-point.be was offline for over a month. Hard to take any legal actions for just €12 I guess.

Any lawyers amongst the readers?

Ghost is on-point! Amy too

Quote of the day:

“It’ll never be the same again, cos I’m on-point!”
(Ghostface ft. Amy Winehouse - You know I’m no good)

Now of course this ain’t new, stay on-point and know you’re in with the big boys/girls!

Theodore Ghostface gave the Clark Wallabee its street credibility and Amy… well she’s into shoes as well, having launched the term “fuck-me-pumps”, in Flanders commonly known as “fuck-me-botjes”.

The red-handed pick-pocket

I caught my first pick-pocket. Just the other night.

Red-handed. The amateur small time crook was unzipping the pocket of my jacket (had my wallet in one pocket, my keys in the other, the fool had his mind set on the non-wallet side).

In comes the difficult part: what was I to do? Faster than my shadow I turned my head looked him straight in the eyes, sporting the heavily feared pokerface. No words were spoken. Tension in the air. He didn’t say a word, nor did he leave, just chose another spot, way in the back of the bar.

Earlier that night my personal pick-pocket had offered me the usual - “hashisj? marihuana? synonym? synonym?”. An hour later our paths crossed in the mens room and dumb as he was he offered me the usual, again:

- “hashisj?
me: I already told you.
- marihuana?
me: I already told you.
- synonym?
me: I already told you.
- that’s not an answer.
me: It is, I don’t want your shit, you asked me before, didn’t want it then, still don’t want it. Maybe you want my wallet though?
- what?
me:…
- I don’t want your wallet!
me: Good.
-

Difficult to say if the pacifist approach was the best. I guess it’s just my style not to break ones nose. Then again it’s also my style not to pick ones pockets, so why didn’t I?

You know Mo&Grazz from their debut album, released last year. You’ve heard the album, seen them live or heard my very own audio interview. Now here’s the two of them in a nice live + interview combo on television.

I’ve loved their live show in Ancienne Belgique early last year, but now that I’ve heard they will do an exclusive full live band show at the upcoming Jazzbreak series in Le Tavernier I’m getting really excited. The idea sure sounds promising to me. That’s April 18, don’t miss out!

Wonderful - February 24th edition

Hear this, hear this! Wonderful will be back in town, February 24 and by popular demand we’ll have a tribute to both James Brown and J Dilla!

Now that’s two Jamesses in a row so you can’t go wrong with that, and it’s only right anyway. A blazing hot selection of killers brought to you by Lefto, Brown Moshunz and your favourite dj-duo vic&lloyd, of course. Or as the flyer says: “a monthly kaleidoscope party devoted to the black music spectrum”. Right on!

Add some ppklts to the soirée and you just know it’s gonna be hot.

Be on the look-out for the Wonderful craze, tell your sister, tell your friends, they ain’t ready, so you better act like you know! Toi-même tu sais!

February 24, get it locked in the old agenda.
