There’s a spot on top of my easel. A bug has been mistaken it for the sun for the last 5 hours. Thusfar no wings are burnt.

Personally I think 2007 is gonna be hot, still haven’t figured out how to end the 2006 though. Loooks like I might stay in, only to leave the house at the crack of dawn, maybe go check out the ondasonora sound at Jesus’ Paradise.

There has been a huge lack of comments lately. But the statistics don’t lie, I see you! So let’s give it another try:

- “2007, what will it be all about?”
- “2006, what was it all about?”

Get down with the program everybody, no matter the weather, speak your mind!

And on that note I’ll call it a night, sending all my respect to everybody out there gathering that knowledge for the upcoming exams, tests and what not.

In stand-up comedy the smart-asses in the audience are called hecklers. True killer comedians know how to handle them properly. I had never heard of Joe Rogan before I saw this video, and I’ll be damned if he doesn’t just walk right over this one! (although it doesn’t always end that sweet)

The tips I could give were worthless pieces of shit, like ‘try to be as precise as possible, avoid vagueness’. You know. Having seen the local expo scene boom like crazy and having met some wonderful artists I kind of stepped back. Then I figured: “who’s blog is this anyway?” So there you have it. It’s a rainy hat, inspired by rain nor hats. Thankyouverymuch. Happy Tuesday to all!

Jeezeken is geboren en daar heb ik niets aan toe te voegen. (Desalniettemin een Zalige kerst toegewenst!)

James Brown is op 73-jarige leeftijd overleden aan een longontsteking. En dat is spijtig. Maar om nu te zeggen dat ik een blog over James kan vullen, helaas. Voor de mensen die the Godfather of Soul enkel kennen van Sex Machine en Living in America, raad ik echter wel, en met licht aandrang, aan de soundtrack van “Black Caesar” in huis te halen. ’s Mans oeuvre is te indrukwekkend (6 pagina’s! onderaan doorklikken)om er dieper op in te gaan, maar u heeft alvast mijn favoriet. Voeg daaraan toe: Lyn Collins en Bobby Byrd en je vibet een end weg.

Ook recent van ons heen gegaan: Rik Poot. Ik zeg het niet uit een soort misplaatste artistieke correctheid maar omdat ik enkele jaren terug het genoegen had de man te interviewen bij hem thuis. Alwaar we door mevrouw Poot hartelijk ontvangen werden en een warme maaltijd aangeboden kregen. De verbinding Londerzeel-Brussel is er echter geen vlotte, dus moesten we het aanbod afslaan. En Rik voerde ons per camionette hoffelijk terug naar het station. Hartverwarmende mensen. Rik Poot droeg het métier hoog in het vaandel, of je zijn werken nu apprecieert of niet, ik kan er enkel vol ontzag over spreken. (google helpt me geen stap verder op zoek naar fotomateriaal, excuus daarvoor.)

Pech voor de fijnproevende rokers onder de lezers want vanaf volgende week doet België een eerste poging om de restaurants rookvrij te houden. Daar hoort natuurlijk een mediacampagne bij, maar omdat de televisie vooralsnog meer uit dan aan staat, had ik deze gemist. Geen nood echter, on-point’s eerst ‘Boodschap van Algemeen Nut’:

- De marketingboys hebben dat weer bijzonder schoon voor mekaar gekregen: props!
- Geen Struisvogels. (Nochtans)
- De overheid heeft nog geen youtube/metacafe/googlevideo/imeem/etc. account.
- De Hoge Asbak op de stoep gaat het helemaal maken in 2007.
- De nieuwe Klara spot (’Het Paleis’) is ook master.
- Ten huize =lloyd= mag u er nog steeds een komen opsteken, maar ik ben dan ook geen chef-kok.

En dan krijg je dat dus ook nog. Varkensvet, nasmeulend drijfvet op mijn koffie. Erg fijngevoelig van mr. Senseo, dacht ik nog. Als ik die Senseo ooit eens tegenkom zal ik hém eens goed zijn vet geven! Hoewel…

Hij heeft toch gesmaakt. Beter kan altijd (als u of ik er zelf zetten, bijvoorbeeld) maar gesmaakt heeft het toch.

Bloggers ondereen durven het al eens over statistieken hebben. Sterker nog, het is naast RSS en CSS een verplichte topic. Gisteren een pint gepakt met Mich, wat overigens resulteerde in een puik stukje blog van zijn kant een dezer dagen. Bleek dat hij met gemak de on-point statistieken dubbelt. Ik voelde een steek in de hartstreek (zo’n blog is toch je kind, niewaar) maar vandaag zie ik dit dan weer gebeuren:

Sinds de literatuurcomments ben ik niet gestopt met lezen, al moet ik toegeven dat ik nog geen enkele van de tips gevolgd heb. De books-to-read stapel lag al een tijdje klaar en voorlopig zijn deze al de revue gepasseerd:

Enkele dagen geleden ben ik dan aan “Werk” van Josse De Pauw begonnen, toepasselijk gezien ik net daarmee volgende week stop. Maar wat ik wou zeggen/tonen. In toeval geloof ik niet en ik was dan ook danig verrast toen ik eergisteren op myspace Uman aantrof en wat zag ik daar? Correct me if I’m wrong, maar dit is toch vriend Josse?

(Original Uman had enkele jaren geleden bescheiden succes met zijn eerste solo album, o.a. met “La chaine alimentaire”, toi même, tu sais. Daarnaast blijkt hij dus nog steeds artistiek actief en mijn kop eraf als daar niet vroeg of laat nog een expo van komt.)

Ik had het er eerder al over, een stukje video over de soundtrack van Vidange Perdue, met Tom Kestens en ons aller Krewcial, ook wel bekend van Lalalover.

Looks like Belgium’s silently growing to an unseen level of on-pointness. With Delta in Brussels and Jaba in Luik/Liège having opened new expo’s last week, this week none other than Piet Parra opens his expo in Ghent. You’ve no doubt read about Parra before, it may well have been here.

De DELTA expo bij ons aller Alice hebben we gisteren middels menige Vedette en een interview met de man zelve geopend. Door de drukte heb ik de expo nog niet tot in alle details gezien, maar alles blijft nog staan zoals het stond tot 21 januari.

Vanavond opent in Luik de JABA & ISA expo. En die loopt dan weer tot 30 december. Jaba trouwens die ons binnenkort verlaat en een major carrièremove maakt richting buitenland. Iets met een grote filmstudie en animatie… jatoch!

Top of the bill dit weekend wordt ongetwijfeld Lefties Soul Connection, vanavond in De Kreun, morgen in Sojo in Leuven. Benieuwd hoe zenuwzwachtig onze Brothers on the Run zullen rondtippelen, voorprogramma zijnde van Hollands hardste funk outfit!

Quite some people were wondering: “this here poodle is nice and all, but is it on-point?”

Acting as if they were to busy and occupied and shit to watch a poodle jump. Well let me just answer by saying: “Yes, the video is dope. Yes, it is as absurd as our country’s politics and Yes, it made on-point.be a feature on uniquedaily.com!” (bottom row, third one from the left)

Voor wie nog op zoek naar zijn naar kerstcadeau’s is deze misschien een optie: de 5dvd box van Spike Lee.

In de loop der jaren ben ik een bijna onvoorwaardelijke Spike-adept geworden, dus vergeef me de weinig kritische review. Maar check it out en u zal het met me eens zijn, de box is master! Malcolm X 2dvd staat overigens ook niet slecht onder de kersteboom.

LVB.net bericht over de fictie-docu die RTBF vanavond uitzond. In ware Orson Welles style werden de programma’s vanavond onderbroken met de melding dat het Vlaamse parlement de onafhankelijkheid uitgeroepen had. Verontwaardigde reacties stromen binnen en het debat is weer gezellig gloeiend heet. Geen politieke meningen op on-point, hoewel ik deze toch wel geslaagd vind, moet ik eerlijk toegeven.

Maandag, het krieken van de week en lloyd is wederom verheugd. Het zijn drukke tijden en het ziet er naar uit dat het er niet meteen rustiger op zal worden. On-point headquarters staat broeiend heet en al waren we zelfs niet genomineerd voor de award ‘blog van het jaar’, de statistieken stral van liefde, waarvoor dank.

I have this great fascination with the underground. Having read “Molemen” (translated to Dutch as ‘Tunnelmensen’) and having seen the amazing documentary “Dark Days“, both telling the story of homeless people building a community in the tunnels of New York City, I’m thrilled to see another documentary on the life below is out there. Matter of fact I think I’ll order me a copy of “Dead Space” right away!(check out: deadspacemovie.com!)

The docu gives us some insight in the catacombes of Paris, where veteran graffiti-writer PSYCKOZE steadily built his own universe throughout the past decade. 69 kilometres of abandoned tunnels, 100 feet below the capital of France… If you’re not excited about the topic already, you might as well leave this site. Or, perhaps let the trailer do the proper teasing:

Mo the City needs no introduction, the 313 has had its musical influences spread all over the globe for the past decennia and we all know it (don’t make me go listing names, r.i.p. J Dilla)

Detroit’s Motown signature of course came from the General and other Motors industry vitalising the city, after the industry fell off, the city morphed into this sort of post-modern abandondness, leaving empty factories and housings all over the place.

This called for some action, luckily a group of enthusiasts heard the call, and started ‘Object Orange’. Thanks to GOOD Magazine, we now also got this short video report:

Een interview met de artiest bleek door tijdsgebrek niet mogelijk, maar wie weet wat de nabije toekomst u nog brengt. Voelt u zich ondertussen vrij om de video op uw eigenste blog of site over te nemen (dat doe ik zelf ook altijd, niewaar) For now, a video:

De expo liep begin dit jaar en de reportage kwam tot stand met de aimabele hulp van vrienden-collega’s Jill Mathieu, Cemil Belek, Sammy Follet en Rebecca Joris. Dank ook aan de Brusselse Montana Shop voor de medewerking.

Ow ja, en dan was er nog de Goedheilig Man, door Unesco bijna als werelderfgoed erkend. Hoe hij het klaargespeeld heeft weet ik niet, maar zijn presenten verheugden mij zonder meer.

Toen ik de Man jongstleden in de living tegen het spreekwoordelijke lijf liep, viel het me echter op hoe casual hij erbij liep. De beleefdheidsvormen opgeborgen in kast op zolder, de mijter en het goud blijven oblige, uiteraard. Maar ik moet zeggen, dat stond hem lang niet slecht.

Of wat dacht u daarover?

I have no clue how long this has been up, I must have overlooked it last time, but here’s Banksy’s video page. The man, the myth at work: watch him do his thing! Here’s one out of four making-offs: Disneyland 2006.

It’s a good thing to have follow-ups, so out of genuine admiration for R.Crumb I have to share this video of the master explaining to us “The Bean Effect”.

If you’re not familiar with Crumb’s work yet, there are books filled with his sketches in every library, and most of the times you’ll also find the documentary “Crumb”, and the feature film “American Splendor”, which should give you a quite good overview on the legend, the myth, of Crumb. (He actually moved to France to get away from his obsessive fanbase in the US, so go figure…)

Anyway, here’s “The Bean Effect”, based on Crumbs personal obsessions:

Graffitilegend Futura (remember those old Mo’Wax and U.N.K.L.E. record covers) teamed up with the timeless class of Clarks and made his own version of the Wallabee. Although I’m a fan of both, I can’t hide a little disappointment here. Seriously though, what effort did he put in it? It’s a shinny leather version with a slight variation in colour, which of course is darn stylish, but it’s hard to make a wallie not look stylish, right? (Comes in a limited edition of only 500 pairs, but I still wanted to let you know though)

De laatste tijd vroegen niet weinig fans zich af wat lloyd beroepshalve nu in vredesnaam aan het uitspoken was. De dag is aangebroken dat ik eindelijk, en niet zonder enige trots, de vruchten mijner werk van de afgelopen weken kan etaleren.

Gobots.be heet de nieuwe site, en daar staan voorwaar enkele schitterende on-point videoproducties op. Kortjes, maar u zal ze ervaren als bijzonder krachtig. Of niet. In ieder geval ze staan er, en dit is, uiteraard, slechts het begin, so stay tuned!

Toeval of niet, net nu ik een interview met Tom Kestens en Krewcial (Lalalover), over het maken van de soundtrack van Vidange Perdue, aan het monteren ben, komt het nieuws binnen dat de titels van de tweede Faits Divers filmreeks bekend zijn.

Geoffrey Enthoven, die voor de eerste reeks Vidange Perdue maakte, en eerder al Les Enfants de l’Amour (naar ‘t schijnt en met enig overdrijven de Belgische David Lynch, maar dat is aan u om te oordelen) is alweer van de partij. Zijn nieuwe zal heten: “Happy together” en de soundtrack zal alweer verzorgd worden door… Al mocht ik dat nog niet met zoveel woorden zeggen. Maar u begrijpt…

Terug naar Vidange Perdue.
Het interview komt binnenkort online, de dvd volgt kort erna, en de oude audio-interviews met Geoffrey Enthoven en Marijke Pinoy staan nog steeds online, voor u. En dan was er nog de review, en hier een collegiale link.

Ter info: de Faits Divers filmreeksen zijn gemaakt i.s.m. VTM en het VAF. De eerste reeks komt binnenkort ‘op de VTM’, voorlopig nog geen idee wanneer.
